Amine Plants

Amine / Acid Gas Removal Units are used for the removal of CO2 and H2S (also known as Acid Gas) in a process gas or natural gas stream. Acid removal from natural gas is done to prevent corrosion in downstream pipelines and process equipment along with the toxicity of H2S to personnel and the environment. Spitzer will provide Amine Units designed to meet the CO2 specifications for US pipeline (2 mole %), cryogenic plant (0.1 mole %), or LNG Plants (50 ppm). Spitzer amine units can reduce H2S to below 4ppm.

Standard Packages

Spitzer Standard Amine/Acid Gas Removal units are designed with two sections, the amine contactor section and the amine Regeneration section. The amine contactor package and amine regeneration package can be configured to meet the client’s product gas specifications and design requirements.

The amine contactor is based on gas flow rates. The amine contactor can be designed using two types of internals: structured packing or bubble cap trays based on your requirements. Amine contactor section standard package includes following:

  • All amine contactors are designed for pressure and temperature of 1400 / 1440 PSIG and 150°F / 130 °F respectively
  • Amine contactors with 20 trays are offered from 36” to 96” I.D.
  • Inlet Scrubber / Filter Coalescer upstream of absorber column
  • Amine Flash Drum
  • Pneumatic controls

 

The regeneration package is based on amine circulation rate and reboiler duty. All Spitzer standard amine regeneration sections include:

  • Standard sizes from 250,000 BTU/HR reboiler duty (3 GPM circulation rate) to 55.0 MM BTU/HR reboiler duty (800 GPM circulation rate).
  • Amine regenerator with 20 trays are offered from 36” to 96” I.D.
  • Direct fired reboiler with BMS (3 to 300 GPM circulation rate)
  • HMO reboiler with HMO system – 400/800 GPM circulation rate
  • Amine booster and amine circulation pumps
  • Rich side mechanical and carbon filtration
  • Lean / rich amine exchanger
  • Lean amine cooler
  • Amine reflux K.O. drum, amine reflux cooler, and amine reflux pumps
  • Amine make up pump
  • Pnuematic controls

Process Description

The high-pressure CO2 and H2S feed gas will enters the amine contactor section where it will run counter current to the lean amine in the amine contactor. This counter current flow of feed gas and lean amine on the tower trays result in the lean amine absorbing the CO2 and H2S from the inlet gas. The feed gas then leaves the amine contactor section as “sweet” gas.

The rich amine exiting the amine contactor is loaded with CO2 and H2S. The rich amine passes through the amine regeneration section until it reaches the low pressure, high temperature amine regenerator column. In the amine regenerator tower the CO2 and H2S is released as acids gas. The hot lean amine is sent through the remainder of the amine regenerator section where it is cooled and repressured to be sent into the amine contactor again.
